And the grand champion in the unintentional irony competition is…

Alton Verm, of Conroe, TX, for filing a book compliant against the school district. The book in question is Fahrenheit 451, and he filed his complaint during Banned Books Week.
Following the template almost perfectly, Alton had this to say. “It’s just all kinds of filth,” said Alton Verm, adding that he had not read “Fahrenheit 451.” “The words don’t need to be brought out in class. I want to get the book taken out of the class.” He looked through the book and found the following things wrong with the book: discussion of being drunk, smoking cigarettes, violence, “dirty talk,” references to the Bible and using God’s name in vain.
Hmm, drunkenness, cigarettes, violence, dirty talk, and God’s name in vain. Which of those doesn’t exist in the Bible? Cigarettes maybe?

Who are these people? I’d be curious what they DO read, considering the books they not only don’t read but don’t want others to read as well.
Geez, with those requirements, there’s not many books left.
And I recommended both my homeschooled teens read Fahrenheit 451. Then again, I also checked out Jon Stewart’s book America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction for them.
As for Harry Potter, we have an interesting paperback called The Gospel According to Harry Potter: Spirituality in the Stories of the World’s Most Famous Seeker, that the kids have all read and discussed with me as well as having read the novels.
I was born in Conroe, Texas, and at the age of 18, sang three choruses of “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This”, and split. A couple of years back some other Rhodes scholars in nearby New Caney tried to have a (Michelangelo) statue of David removed from a Bucca di Beppo because it was nekkid. What can you say? Oh, and it was way, way up on top of the building…..you would have needed binoculars to see the penis. Guess they brought their own. Fucking idiots.
I’m not totally certain that the removal of David
was only because it was naked. Am I the only one who has observed that Di Beppo’s David is a little more
endowed than Michaelangelo’s original?
If so, then that could be the reason for the removal…
