The Flickr brew-ha-ha

Last night I got an email from Flickr telling me that due to the Yahoo buyout last year I needed to connect my Yahoo ID with my Flickr account and start logging in with the Yahoo ID.

So I did. No big deal, and not unexpected given that Yahoo owns Flickr.

Apparently, this is an opportunity to bitch for some folks. (Linked blog is not the source of the bitching, but does have a good take on it)

SmugMug has jumped on the opportunity to offer Flickr members a 50% discount on year one. Smart Move.

I’ve been a paying Flickr member for 2 years. However, I was considering moving to Yahoo Photos when the Flickr bill came next time. I have hundreds of pictures on Flickr, and I think I’ve amassed about 10 comments, and most of them probably originated via here anyway. Flickr is cool, but I don’t use 98% of it, and for what I use online photo sharing for, Yahoo is sufficient, and the price is right. The only thing I will miss is the blog integration. Hopefully somebody will write some code to produce the photostream thumbnails from Yahoo photos.

This is a personal blog. Anything expressed here is at best my opinion and my opinion only. I'm not above making stuff up to start a conversation, so you are probably better off just not taking anything I write here too seriously. Comments are owned by whoever posted them.
