I admit it, I bought this because it had monkey in the name. Didn’t read the label and had no idea what to expect. With a name like Golden Monkey, how could I go wrong?

Holy Belgian yeasts Batman! This is one hell of a beer. It pours a lovely golden straw color, with lots of carbonation and millions and millions of little yeast pieces floating around in in my pint glass. The nose just about punches you in your nose. It’s a pungent mixture of clove and banana. It smells like a wheat beer, but it is not. It’s 2 row German barely and Belgian yeast. Gotta love that Belgian yeast.

The start, the finish, everything about this beer is just beautiful. The start is sharp and somewhat fruity, as you might expect from the nose. It finishes almost with a little bit of an alcohol burn, like you are shooting vodka or something. It is 9.5% alcohol, maybe that is an alcohol burn I am sensing. What ever it is I like it.

Did I mention that it is 9.5% alcohol? A couple of these and I’ll be dancing in the streets. Too bad I only bought one. I won’t make that mistake next time.

The Golden Monkey is responsible for one of the biggest drunken events of my entire DC life, I love that stuff.

    Chris,
I’m in your neck of the woods. Where are you buying the fancy beer?
