Live Blogging American Idol

I’ll be live blogging American Idol in this space. Why? I have no idea. I’ve never live blogged anything before, and Sanjaya trying to sing country seems like a great time to start. I’ll post the updates each commercial break.

Well, I guess they had to acknowledge Virginia Tech. At least they didn’t overdo it. When did Martina McBride grow her hair that long?

Phil Stacey – Keith Urban isn’t a real stretch for any of these guys, Sanjaya could probably even pull it off. Still, it sounds pretty decent. Did he just pronounce y’all as two syllables? Wow, the judges love it. Phil goes country?

Jordan – I quote my son, “Is there anything she can’t sing?” I’d have to say no. Unbelievable talent, and only 17 years old. No surpises from the judges – they all loved it.

Sanjaya – Simon singing Shiny Happy People – nice answer. He is doing Bonnie Raitt. Well, he is projecting more. Oops, missed that key again. This is bad. He just sucks louder this week. I wonder if he can pull that bandanna down and gag himself? The Ryan – Simon shows need to end. Nobody cares about their little petty and probably pretend feud.

LaKisha – Doing Carrie Underwood. Doing another Idol’s song usually does not work. I think she is screaming the chorus. It’s not working for me. That was weak. The judges will probably love it. Randy didn’t dig it. Paula brought up the shouting issue. Simon nailed her too. I’m surprised. I rarely see it like the judges.

Chris – He picked Rascal Flatts. He picked a somewhat obscure song though – the audience doesn’t know it. Seems very average and boring to me. The audience booing every time somebody gets criticized is lame. He is from VA so I guess he gets a pass on the VA Tech shoutout.

Melinda – Julie Reeves – a newbie on the country scene. Heard the name, never heard the song. I’m a little surprised that she is pulling honky tonk blues off this well. Pretty good, but Jordan wins on the women’s side tonight.

Blake – Doing Tim McGraw. Wonder if he’ll add his own twist to it? Rocked it up a bit – it worked. He’ll be the last guy standing this year. He wins for the guys, but the competition on that side really isn’t that strong.

That’s it. Don’t count on me doing this again.
