The Rolling Stones – The Biggest Bang (DVD)

Jun 06

The new Rolling Stones DVD will be released on 6/12 and is only available at Best Buy. June 12th is just a few days before Father’s Day (hint hint). The hint is not for me though, as I already have it, thanks to my benevolent and kind corporate overlords. With absolutely nothing on TV last night, I headed downstairs to the home theater to sample the 4 DVD set.

There are two complete concerts (Austin, TX and Rio), footage from various concerts in Asia, unreleased tracks, documentaries, special guest performances, a jukebox feature, a probably some stuff I’m forgetting about. Overall there is 7+ hours of concert footage alone, plus all the bonus materials. One thing that struck me about the concerts was the very different atmosphere. The Austin show was a family affair, with plenty of kids there with mom and dad. The Rio concert featured a lot of audience shots of Brazilian hotties. I’m just saying. The set list repeats a bit, but that is unavoidable I guess. It’s not like they can decide to skip I Can’t Get No Satisfaction one night. The sound is all Dolby Digital Surround, which is nice. Michelle is home so I couldn’t blast it, but I will try that sometime with this. The stench of stale beer and the aroma of pakalolo is non existent in my home theater. If they could somehow figure out how to recreate that it would be just like being there, except that you’d be up the $200 you didn’t spend on a ticket.

If Dad is a Stones fan, and he can operate the DVD player you bought him for Christmas last year, this DVD set is a perfect Father’s Day present. And at $29.99 the price is right too.
