The ultimate insulin pump
August 14th, 2007 by COD
This is sort of neat, from a pure UI geek perspective. Well known design firm Adaptive Path, just for fun, designed a new insulin pump/ meter combination that looks suspiciously like an iPod shuffle. They weren’t constrained by simple things like the actual technology being available though. The amount of miniaturization that goes into an insulin pump is already pretty damn amazing, and the dream device here will require some major technology advances. Hopefully Michelle will add something in the comments from the perspective of an actual diabetic.
The danger here is that some diabetics have a tendency to get over excited about new advances. You can’t blame them, given what they put up with each day to stay alive. This ain’t coming down the pike in the next 2-3 years. Or, they get like Michelle and become very cynical about any announced advance in diabetes care.
The Adaptive Path blog post on meeting with diabetics and getting to understand the human factors around managing diabetes is damn good.

This is interesting. My husband is a geek and a type 1 diabetic, so I’ll be forwarding this to him!
