It’s fairly obvious that all reasonable people understand why the Homeschool Blog Awards are not representative of homeschool bloggers. They need a new name that is more descriptive of their true purpose. Since they are too blinded by fundamentalism to understand this, we’ll have to select that new name for them. Leave your suggestions in the comments. The winner will be selected via a highly scientific process involving copious amounts of beer.

Also, as another fun contest, go ahead and guess at the percentage of nominees for their awards that are hosted at Homeschoolblogger.com. I’m thinking the over / under has be around 70%.

The “Stick Up Our Butts” awards. . . no, that won’t work.

The “We are so uptight we squeak when we walk” awards. . .

The “We homeschool and you don’t really because you don’t do it the way we do so we can call these the homeschooling awards because only our way counts and you’re all going to hell anyway” awards . . . perhaps a tad long.

The “How Would Jesus Homeschool” awards. . . but why drag a good name through the mud.

Sigh. . . this is too damn hard. . . where’s the beer??

I second Doc’s nomination. Really, why don’t they just come right out and say it?

    Oops:

The 2007 Homeschool Blog Awards for Fundies United to Criticize and Kondemn ‘Most Everyone.

I just ran “Sprittibee’s” (I hate that name) blog through the rater. She’s a PG. “Some material not suitable for children”. Go see her rant on the blog award page, it’s priceless, and so full of Skip’s excrement that I needed barn boots to wade through it. She’s stalking my blog. I feel violated.

How about The Stereotypical Homeschoolers Blog Awards?

  10. on 08 Nov 2007 at 3:37 pm Andrea

Why don’t they just have a HSB award thingy?

I like Daryl’s. Think about it.

  12. on 08 Nov 2007 at 4:18 pm Daryl Cobranchi

I’m glad somebody got the joke.

  13. on 08 Nov 2007 at 4:19 pm COD

I see what you did there.

  14. on 08 Nov 2007 at 4:26 pm Doc

I hear that “most bloggers” have google alerts set to their name. Is this true? Not only is my blog unsuitable for children (except mine, who read it only when pressured to), apparently I’m not greedy enough for name recognition to search the internet daily for references to myself. Sigh. I’m so out of it. I believe I will just go eat some chocolate.

A Google alert for my name would just depress me with facts about the wonderful life of that other Chris ODonnell :) I do have a Google alert for my URL though – so I can see who is linking to me.

I’m fond of SAM’s title. The “homeschool bloggers that are like us” part rang far too true. Although I would have inserted “just” between Award…For. They seem to REALLY hate diversity, discussion and dissention in any and all forms.

  17. on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:45 pm Andrea

Doc, the only people I know who go to those extents are a very small group of people who are either intesely private, looking for stalkers or paranoid. Not “most”.

heck, “most” bloggers these days don;t even know what RSS feeds are…

Can you believe Alasandra was rated R. I am still in shock.

Y’all have already come up with some great names. Here is my pitiful attempt.

THE PETTY F CHRISTIAN BLOG AWARDS. Y’all can figure out what the F stands for, being a Southern Lady I can’t possibly type it.

“A small circle of likeminded blogs” awards

  20. on 09 Nov 2007 at 1:17 am Doc

I wonder how much $$ it will take to get them to sell me the domain name.

  21. on 09 Nov 2007 at 3:57 pm Phil

I’m going to start my own homeschool blog awards, and award all the prizes to myself. I can’t wait to get them! :)

  22. on 09 Nov 2007 at 9:40 pm debra

Not June Cleaver said,”I second Doc’s nomination. Really, why don’t they just come right out and say it?” Oh my, they could NEVER come out :-)

This suggestion from Daryl gets the vote of all the staff at our umbrella school, Florida Unschoolers.

(Although DH was largely responsible for the name of the school, the staff at FU is, actually, me. :) )

I hit on this the other day kidding around but I hereby nominate it quite seriously:
    The Homeschool Helpmeet Blog Awards

This is a personal blog. Anything expressed here is at best my opinion and my opinion only. I'm not above making stuff up to start a conversation, so you are probably better off just not taking anything I write here too seriously. Comments are owned by whoever posted them.
