Your faithful police servants at work.

Today, while attending the Republican National Convention Protest to demonstrate his personal disapproval of the war in Iraq, five officers from the St. Paul Police Department beat him mercilessly. When we picked him up we found him bloody, covered in bruises and scrapes, alone and in need of medical attention.

To Protect and Serve used to refer to the general public. Who are they serving these days?

A lot of other bad police stuff is going on in that town. I’ve been linking it in my friendfeed and tumblr.

Did anyone get it on video? All those cellphones, and no video. Love those black pants and that black bandanna around his neck, kinda looks like the one the anarchists we’ve seen breaking windows and attacking the cops. But black pants and black bandannas are in this year, saw it on Queer Eye the other day.

So being queer and wearing black gives permission to the police to beat the crap out of you?

Oh, so you saw this, or do you have the video of this specific incident in its entirety, NO. All we have is one picture of the kid sitting on the ground in front of the line of cops, and then the pics from his mom. But nothing in between, maybe he was beaten up for no reason, maybe he walked up to the cops with a baseball bat and started swinging, we don’t know.

The very well documented history of police brutality in recent years in this country makes his story very believable. It’s not my fault that the militarization of the police force that has been aided and abetted by the federal government under the Bush administration makes them automatically suspect in cases like this. They lost their right to the benefit of doubt.

Until he provides actual evidence, video, creditable eyewitnesses, he doesn’t a story, he has a fairy tale.

  9. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:02 pm COD

If he really did something to justify the beating he took the police are an epic fail for releasing him uncharged with any crime.

Here’s a link to the 17yo boys injuries that were taken after he was released from police custody, without medical treatment, and without notifying his parents. Interesting that they replaced his t-shirt with one the read Remember 9-11.

There is also a video. I don’t see a baseball bat. Maybe he picked it up later. Maybe Martians were controlling his thoughts. Maybe he’s Jason Bournes love child. You know Bourne was a bad ass. Could kill a whole squad of officers. Best be safe.

    Kinda like the bible, Brian?

  12. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:31 pm Brian

At least Rodney King had a video to back up his story. Evidence, thats all i’m asking.

  13. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:36 pm COD

We’ll take you seriously when you start demanding the same level of evidence from conservatives. This is a textbook case of confirmation bias.

  14. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:40 pm ImPerceptible

I have a tremendous amount of respect for police officers but they do not get an automatic pass because they have a badge. And they shouldn’t. If they did this story, true or not, would be far too common.

Curious, what if this had been a nun instead of a young male Buddhist? Would you feel differently?

  16. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:52 pm Brian

We’re talking about a specific incident, this person making claims against the police dept. A claim which he cannot back-up with any proof. If he can prove it, then prosocute the individuals involved. In a court of law, this guy has nothing.

  17. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:55 pm COD

He was beaten. He was in custody. He is a minor that was released from custody with multiple untreated wounds. He is a minor who was in custody and his parents were not notified. These are all uncontested facts. There are 2 police screw ups right there. Where there is smoke there is fire. The circumstantial evidence is strongly on his side.

  18. on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:58 pm ImPerceptible

I guess in a court of law rape victims, battered spouses, and unfound murder victims have nothing as well.

  19. on 04 Sep 2008 at 3:00 pm Brian

Thats not assault, arrest and detention violations, probably. Both serious issues depending on the details, but still not assault

  20. on 04 Sep 2008 at 3:04 pm COD

And why might you commit those particular violations? Trying to cover up the fact that you just beat the shit out of an innocent underage citizen would be pretty good motivation to dump him on the street and not have any record of why you had him in detention in the first place.

Funny the little differences between what he told a newspaper and what Moms got on the PushBack website.

He says 3-4 cops, she says no less than 5. He says he pulled his arm away from one of the cops, thereby resisting arrest. She says he put his arms out to show them he was unarmed. She forgets to mention that he had someone elses ID in his bag along with his.

  22. on 04 Sep 2008 at 4:41 pm COD

Well hell, in that case, they should have tasered his ass.

Why waste your breath or brain cells on Brian — there’s no evidence at all that he is real! No link, certainly no photo proof that he exists or is who he purports to be, or stands behind anything he is saying.

On a real note though (if wikipedia is real?) I happened to notice earlier today that Alaska is over 80% Christian but a full ten percent Buddhist! Interesting that it would be a Buddhist getting beaten to protect Alaska’s governor from any um unpleasantness . . .

Do you accept birth certificates as ID here, Chris, or do you prefer photo IDs and fingerprints? ;-)

I guess that’s why they call this the silly season. I feel like I’ve been taking crazy pills trying to discuss anything lately, and truth really is running much stranger than fiction . . .

    Dearest Brian –

I don’t give a flying fig about this particular incident. I was making fun of you for being a homophobe.

Damn, I’ve got to be clearer in my insults.

I thought Brian was the anti-COD. Makes sense that he would be a little brother. Little brothers are a pain. :)

Brian, can you please get me those pictures I’ve been looking for? I keep looking but I can’t find them.
