Here’s a dollar kid. Now sit down, shut up, and learn something.

I learned over at Tinygrass that the DC school system has officially given up. Since the point of life is to collect a paycheck every 2 weeks, they are just going to pay kids to show up and go through the motions. You know, because it works so well in the corporate world. The kids in 14 middle schools participating in the experiment can earn as much as $100 every 2 weeks for showing up, staying out of trouble, and maintaining decent grades.

That is just tragic. Not unexpected, considering the “money fixes everything” attitude of people around here, but terribly tragic none-the-less for each and every one of those kids. I have to go hug my kid now.
Once upon a time it was considered a privilege to get an education.
Now that everyone is ENTITLED to an education, they expect to be paid for showing up.
It’s sad.
Unbelievable – reward for doing what should be expected. So what do they get if they excel? A bonus check?
I dunno what’s worse – giving up on teaching or the implication that life=bi-weekly paycheck. Either way, I feel really bad for those kids.
