The US Army and HSLDA
Check out the URL for the new Army web page announcing that HEK's are elgible for traditional Tier 1 bonuses, etc.
As far as the US Army is concerned, HSLDA and homeschooling are the same thing.
NC Homeschool Legislative Issues has a whole lot more to say on the cozy relationship between HSLDA and the US Army.

And what percentage of HSers do they represent?
Posted by: Ron at October 22, 2005 10:10 PMThey claim about 80,000 members - I think that means families. So, if we assume that the average HSLDA family has 4 kids (more than the average family overall)that would mean they represent 320,000 HEK's. If we take the lower end of the usual estimates and say 1.2MM HEK's in the US, HSLDA represents at the most 25% of homeschooled kids. If the HS'er number is closer to 2MM, their percentage is more like 16%.
Posted by: COD at October 22, 2005 10:15 PMYou know, I went to the Army page and I was going to send a note (they have a button you can click to email them) explaining that there is a whole world of hsers beyond HSLDA -- but then I realized I was perfectly happy that the Army has not figured out how to recruit my kids. :)

I wish I knew of a smiley for shake your head in disgust/disbelief. I suppose though that's about the percentage of adults that voted for the current administration.
