Welcome to the family Shado

Well, he isn't really in the family, as we are leasing him, we don't own him. However, Delaney does have virtually unlimited access to the horse, and she'll be able to show him all season next year, assuming I keep the lease up ;)

Now I need a vehicle capable of hauling him to the shows.

When Willie Nelson sang "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" he was talking about money.

A pretty Appy for Delaney! Looks like a kind horse, going along on that nice loose rein. And Delaney has got the whole "heels down, eyes up" thing going. She looks great!

I've got to say that doing a lease, as long as you're involved with a decent person and have a good, clear agreement, is an EXCELLENT way to get a taste of horse ownership. It diminishes the commitment if the horse doesn't work out, but gets Dad and Mom used to shelling out the bucks and the child used to the ongoing care required.

By the way, don't let anyone massage you into considering an underpowered vehicle to pull whatever trailer you get or use. You need an 8 cylinder, 5.0 liter, with a 302 or 305 minimum. There is no feeling worse in the world than not having enough oomph to get outta trouble and you've got that 1,000 pound animal back there either pushing your rig or just vulnerable as can be. It's not a place to take a short cut.

It's sorta like having the right stuff on your computer -- depending on what someone wants to do, sometimes it doesn't matter, but sometimes there is no substitute for power and performance.

Any time you need unsolicited horse advice, I am an example that there is no shortage of that.

Best of luck on the horsey endeavors! Truly, "it's a wonderful life."
