The Big News...
I quit my job today. Or, more accurately I gave two weeks notice today. Qwest has become a very miserable place to be. I'm going back to the web development business. That might seem crazy in this economy, but I truly believe that corporate America hasn't even scratched the surface of what is possible with web technologies. With the economy slowly turning I think this is the optimum time to jump back into the business. Actually, I didn't leave on purpose, but that is a story for another time.

The no new news post
I noticed that it's been two days since I posted anything here. I felt guilty, and compelled to find something worth posting. How frigging silly can I be? Like anyone really cares if I go a day or two, a week, or a month without posting. I'm still amazed anybody bothers to read regularly! I originally thought my existing friends and family would be the primary contributors to the blog. Alas, I think maybe 2 or 3 of my comments have been from people I actully know in the real world.
I will have big news on Friday though...

March Madness
I just took a peek at my tournament bracket on Yahoo, I'm in 3277 place, out of 591056 entries. That is better than 99th percentile. And I have 3 out of the Final Four, only one I missed was Duke.
I should have played in a few places where I could have won cash!

The Ewing Theory states that a team frequently gets better, and achieves more, immediately after its "star" gets injured, leaves the team, etc. This originates, of course, from how well the New York Knicks played anytime their star Patrick Ewing was injured or in deep foul trouble very early in a game. Notable examples from the world of sports include the 2001 New England Patriots, who won the Super Bowl after their star QB Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury. An example from the world of entertainment might be Van Halen thriving after the departure of David Lee Roth.
The article has a lot of examples - got any others?

Life in the broadband ghetto
Here in the broadband ghetto life just gets more interesting... The cable company showed up today to install my cable modem. We learned that the builder of my house didn't bother to run cable from the street to my house. So, I have to wait a couple of weeks for the underground crew to run cable from the cable box, under my neighbors yard and driveway, to my house. The installer said he could run me a tempory line today if my neighbors would let him run it through their backyard - no digging or anything, just a coax line up against their fence and around to my property. They declined, which is fine, it is their property and they get to make that call. So, I'm on dial-up - still.
Arrrggghhhh

Picture of the Year winners
The Missouri School of Journalism has announced the winners of the 59th Picture of the Year competition. Some of the Sept 11 photography, particularly the pictures of people jumping out of windows, still gives me the heebie-jeebies 6 months later...

Raiders of The Lost Ark
Happy Saint Patrick's Day. I'm not doing anything special - I generally don't.
Watched Raiders of The Lost Ark with Breck this morning, it was on AMC so it was uncut. Still one of my favorite movies of all time and introducing my son to it was great. He is already asking about watching the others. About 1/2 way through he comments that Indiana Jones looks familiar. I ask him who he looks like, and he answers Han Solo. (Breck has watched the Star Wars movies about 20 times, each)
I think Harrison Ford has a new fan. I'm not sure Breck realized actors played multiple roles before today.

What are these guys thinking?
Rubin Rivera of the New York Yankees, and Albert Connell of the New Orleans Saints, have both been dismissed from their respective teams, and their contracts terminated, for stealing from their teamates. In Connell's case, he just blew a $ 14 million contract.
What the hell were these guys thinking?

More funny stuff from Davezilla
Davezilla is often quite funny - but I laughed so hard at today's story that I actually started to cry.
Go read it - but do it a time when you can afford to laugh out loud.

A blast from the past
We were at Toys R Us tonight. Breck had a birthday gift card from Grandma to spend. He made out pretty well. We stumbled into Mattel Classic Football, and I talked him into buying it. It wasn't hard - if it involves football, baseball or basketball Breck is into it. Needless to say - we spent most of the evening playing. I never actually had this game as a kid, I had Coleco Head to Head Football.
By the way, I quickly got lost at Yesterdayland looking at the old toys. Stretch Armstong, D&D, Electric Football, Shogun Warriors, and GI Joe and my favorite all time toy from childhood, the Atari.

Wireless Internet Access
Tired of waiting for reliable wireless access to the Internet? So am I. However, Salon does a good job of explaining why 802.11 is rolling out so slowly, and what we should expect of it in the near term future.

Ozzy and Sharon?
Somehow, you just knew this show was coming. The Osborne's, as in Ozzy, are the stars of a new MTV reality show. I guess it's kind of like that miserable show Big Brother, except that instead of a bunch of losers trapped in a house, its a dysfunctional family of millionaire Brits in Beverly Hills.
Next month, MTV will premiering their marriage and family relations "Oprah" like talk show, featuring hosts Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson.
And yes, I'll probably watch at least one episode of Ozzy. How could I not?

Where is the nearest fallout shelter?
The Wasington Post is reporting that our Fedeal government is increasingly nervous about the potential of al Qaeda possessing a nuclear device. We've all heard about the Shadow Government recently, and now we learn that the Feds have been deploying sophisticated sensors around DC that will hopefully sniff out nuclear device were it to be transported into the area.
Great. I think it's time for me to move.
I wonder what the zoning regulations are for personal fallout shelters?
