I don't think Yahoo is worrying about me yet
A peek at Alexa tells me that ODonnellWeb is about the 3,000,000th most visited site on the Internet. I guess "Chris ODonnell Naked" just isn't the draw that it used to be ;)

More cable modem woes
After canceling on Tuesday and rescheduling for Wednesday, they didn't show up on Wednesday either. Miraculously, the service came back up Wednesday evening and was actually usable thru about 1 PM on Thursday. Then it went down and did not come back up until about 9 PM. This morning, I could not log in, it doesn't recognize my username/password - which has happened before. The hold time for tech support exceeds 40 minutes. So, Mon-Fri this week I've had about 8 hours of usable service.
1. I'm filing a complaint with the county cale commission that oversees the cable contract.
2. I'm calling Verizon about ISDN, I haven't seen too many downloads on cable that exceed ISDN speeds anyway. It costs more, but at least it will remain up. As it is, I'm afriad to cancel my dial up account - I'm on it again today! ANd cable plus dial up about equals the ISDN cost

An Ugly Hit
I was just flipping around the TV and stopped on the Bruins - Canadians game. I'm really not much of a hockey fan, but I'm rooting for the Bruin's because of the karma effect it could have on the Red Sox. Anyway, Bruin's are up 5-3 with about 90 seconds left in the game, so they pretty much have it in the bag. Richard Zednik, a major star for the Canadian's is setting up a pass and McLaren of the Bruin's just levels him with a forearm to the chin. 15 minutes later Zednik still hasn't moved and he is removed from the ice on a backboard. This definately has the look of one of those "guy never walks" again stories. I sure hope I'm wrong about that. And I hope the league bans McLaren for at least a year. Watching the reply about 20 times (and getting the heebie-jeebies every single time) I don't think there is any doubt - it was a deliberate attempt to injur the star of the opposing team. The question now is, is he paralyzed?

#&*^$ Cable Modem
My cable modem was providing less than dial up quality service all weekend, and then about noon Monday it quit. Actually, the modem is fine I think, its the cable service that is causing the problems. If there is any silver lining in this dark cloud, its that whatever went wrong happened the day they were laying the fiber for the two-way service. My Dial up account is still live, but it took me a day to figure out how to get back on the web with it. &^%$% Windoze networking. As the grand finale for this post, Adelphia called at 5:30 PM today to tell me they weren't going to make it for the service appointment. ^%$%^ government protected monopolies.

A weak week of blogging
I was rather light on the posts last week...sorry about that. I was totally consumed by my first week in the new job at XIF Communications. This weekend, however, my Little League coaching career got off to a great start as the Marlins won 5-3. It's an instructional coach pitch league (6-8 year olds), so there are no official game winners and no standings. That said, I was surprised at how tense I got in the bottom of the 5th (last) inning when the other team loaded the bases. More importantly, the kids are apparently learning something in practice as nobody ran the wrong way on the bases, and they seemed to know where to throw the ball in the field.

Working from Home
I'm in day 3 of working from home full time. I may never be able to go back to an office environment!

LANtastic
Yes, it sounds lame and cheezy, and is probably a trademarked product name for some dufunct networking product. However, I just felt like using the term since I have a LAN in my house! I spent most of yesterday working on it. It's a combination wireless and ethernet LAN, both desktop PC's are hardwired to the router, and my laptop is wireless. I learned a whole lot about Windows networking yesterday, most of the hard way ;)

Another one for the dot com deadpool
I stumbled into this web site, that hasn't been updated since 2001. It's a shame because some of their interviews were really cool. I came in via the Kevn Kinney interview, it's quite long - and very interesting. Very worth reading if you are a Drivin 'N Cryin or Kevn Kinney fan. I also skimmed through an interview with Alice Cooper, and Rob Zombie.

American Airlines sued over WTC Disaster
I hate people like this. His wife wasn't even on a plane! She was in one of the towers, so he is suing American Airlines for $50 million. We despeately need a loser pays system in this country so people like Thomas Smithwick can't use the judicial system as a lottery. I hope American Airlines fights like hell, and wins.

Take me out to the ballgame...
The Red Sox continued their mastery of the Orioles when I am at Camden Yards. The Sox are now 5-0 when I attend the game in Baltimore. The day started off fantastically. I was planning on either getting decent seats cheap on the street, or just buying bleacher seats for the game. The scalpers had nothing - so we headed for the ticket booth. As we got close an older gentleman asked if I was going to buy tickets. He offered me two seats in season-ticket land - for free! Apparently his wife and daughter thought it was too cold for baseball and stayed home! The seats were just past first base, up under the grandstands. Normally, these would be awesome seats, but today it was quite chilly in the shade, so after the first inning we went in search of sunny seats and ended up sitting at the right field foul pole, amongst a group of Sox fans. Breck charmed them instantly with his abnormal (for an 8 year old) knowledge of Sox lore. Even cooler, during the seventh inning stretch, we were on the Jumbotron. The day would have been perfect if we had caught a foul ball, but nothing even came close. Pedro pitched, and won. He wasn't dominating, but he was good enough to shut down the Orioles. A glorious start to baseball season as far I'm concerned!

I'm in appliance hell
In the last 3 months, I have had to replace a washing machine, dishwasher, and vacuum cleaner. Last week the TV in the bedroom died, and tonight my printer seems to have given up on its primary function in life. With the exception of the dishwasher, which was just a GE piece of crap, everything else on the list was pretty old so I can't bitch too much, except that it all happening at the same time is a pain in the ass...and the budget.

CD Review: Kevn Kinney - Broken Hearts and Auto Parts
Kevin Kinney, for those of you that don't know, is / was the lead singer of Drivin N Cryin. This CD, just like his previous solo efforts, is a rootsy, folksy album. It won't go Gold, it probably won't even sell 100,000 copies. However, if you apprecite music that sort of straddles the rock / folk / country fence, you'll like this just fine. I do. Buy it at Village Records.

Straight from Jerusalem
A blogger in Jersusalem is blogging first hand accounts of the situation in the Middle East. Very interesting, and not surprisingly, quite different from what you hear on CNN.
