Salon.com on The Pearls and TTUAC
The Salon article on The Pearl's hit the street today. It's long, well balanced, and generally very well done. It features several quotes from Doc, and a link to my archive page on the The Pearls.

A peek into the soul of Michael Pearl
Our favorite demon publishers have turned up a truly frightening essay by Michael Pearl.
Read the essay and ask yourself this. Does Michael Pearl sound more like Billy Graham, or Jim Jones?

Michael Pearl - Evil, and not so good at math either
The reporter that wrote the original story linking No Greater Joy to the Sean Paddock murder has published a follow up focusing on Pearl and NGJ. Thinking about the life of torment and abuse facing the children of the parents in the article just sickens me. I don't have the stomach to write at length about this, but one huge lie by Pearl stuck out like a sore thumb.
By Pearl's math, one-sixth of the nation's estimated 3 million home-schooling families use his training methods.
What kind of math is he using? There probably aren't even 3 million home educated kids, let alone 3 million families. In fact, I've never seen a responsible estimate for HEK's that exceeds 2 million. 3 million families would suggest 6-9 million kids. He is either lying, or has no idea what goes on in his own business.
Pearl is wary of strangers and doesn't care for reporters. He avoids situations in which he will be censored. He declined a sit-down interview with The News & Observer after the paper refused to sign a contract promising to post the unedited interview on its Web site.
That's a shame. I'm sure the unedited interview would have been very enlightening.

Free Child Abuse Manual
Now you too can beat your children* and feel good about it at the same time. Click here to learn how you can get your free copy of TTUAC.
*Instruments of pain infliction sold seperately. Teach Magazine is the provider of this valuable offer. Check out the big screen TV in the background of the family picture. Apparently spreading God's word pays well.

What Would Jesus Do?
Ron explains it. We all should be doing the same, and you don't even have to be a Christian to "get it."

Check out the comments of this post - where The Pearl's daughter spams a totally unrelated post with her story of an idealic childhood full of sun and joy and fluffy bunnies. She calls out Carlotta over in the UK - so apparently her efforts are having an effect.
Way to go Brits!

Why Your Free Blog Host Matters
The current meme floating around HomeschoolBlogger is that choosing to blog there does not associate the blogger with The Pearls or TTUAC.
Poppycock!
If you choose to blog at Redstate.com it's because you want to be part of the Republican club. If you choose to blog at DailyKos it's because you want to be part of the I hate Republicans club. If you blog at Slashdot it's to be associated with the geek crowd. And when you blog at HSB you willingly associate with the It's OK to hit your child with plumbing supplies club.
When you blog there you are part of that club, whether you like it or not. It's the whole point of a niche blog community. The HSB club leader is on record as enthusiastically supporting The Pearls and TTUAC. You can't just wish that association away.

"The only way you can kill a child with that is by shoving it down his throat."
Maybe true, but a homeschool mom did buy some plumbing supply line and hit herself with it. She reports back that it hurts like hell, and leaves welts.
But remember, it doesn't bruise, so it's not child abuse.

Hell hath no fury....
...not really sure where I was going with that title, but when Hell's leading daily calls you evil, I think the argument is over.

The Mark of the Beast

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? At least now we don't have to bother reading inane blog posts to ID child abusers. They are proudly outing themselves.
I wonder if God told them to do it?
I'd link to the site, but you know...

GMALASHEP
It's pronounced Ga-Mala-Shep, and it's apparently some sort of secret organization that is organizing the boycott of Homeschoolblogger. I'm just a tool they are using to spread their anti-Christian message far and wide.
And here I was thinking that I was potentially helping a small child somewhere. Silly me.
BTW, it stands for Gay, Marxist, Atheist, Libertarian, ACLU Supporting, Home Educating Parents. You can thank Annette for the Acronym. She is the one that pieced together the pieces to see that this has nothing to do with kids, it's all about Christians.
Another acronym for you.
WWJD?
I believe he would do the same thing that GMALASHEP is doing. He would try to convince parents that God never told them to beat their children with plumbing instruments, and that anybody who writes a book that says so is not speaking for God.
I think I know who the real tools are, and it's not us.
Update: Comments are closed. I'm sick of reading them.

Some people have no shame
Like the 19 bloggers at Blogspot that include "To Train Up A Child" as a favorite book in their profiles.
We also have 72 mentions of the phrase at Homeschoolblogger.com. I'd hope some of them are criticism, but I wouldn't count on it.
I had a much stronger title in mind, but I wimped out.

Non-official boycott logo - feel free to copy and use on your site

Doc is having blogger issues again, however she reported in my comments that the boycott total has exceeded 100 bloggers. That's about 90 more than I ever expected!

an eloquent defense of the child
I have to use humor and sarcasm to cover up my lack of real writing ability. Valerie doesn't have that problem. Her take down of biblically supported beating of children is far more eloquent than anything you will see here.

Do Not Link to HomeschoolBlogger.com
Homeschoolblogger.com accepts advertising from No Greater Joy Ministries, who publish To Train Up A Child, a Christian parenting manual that advocates lashing your children with plumbing supply lines, because they sting, but don't bruise.
In an article published today about a child abuse case in NC, Gina Suarez, publisher of Homeschoolblogger.com, is quoted defending the use of plumbing supply lines to beat your child.
"[The Pearls] are talking about something that would fit in a purse," Suarez said. "The only way you can kill a child with that is by shoving it down his throat."
Isn't that nice? Should the sane members of the homeschooling community really be sending traffic to their site? I say no fucking way.
I only had one HSB blogger in the blogroll. I like Scott Somerville personally, but he needs to find another place to hang his blog hat. I suggest Wordpress.com.
If you are blogging at HSB, I ask why? If you have HSB bloggers in your blogroll I suggest you join us in delinking all of them. HSB is advertiser supported. The more traffic they get, the more money they get from No Greater Joy. Do you really want to support that?
Credit to Doc - it was her idea.
Dressing your kids up in childrens costumes can be a fun and entertaining way to enjoy the day.
